Dr. Noé Rubén Chávez Appointed Director for COSH’s Psychology Program
Dr. Noé Rubén Chávez has been appointed the Program Director for ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ’s Psychology Program in the College of Science and Health, effective August 1, 2024.
Dr. Chávez brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this new role, building on his multifaceted responsibilities as a faculty member and researcher both at ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ and other institutions.
He received his BS in Psychology, with a minor in Biology, from the University of Texas at El Paso, an MA in Social/Personality Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, followed by a PhD in Community Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
A published researcher, Dr. Chavez is committed to exploring cultural diversity, the ecology of mental health, health equity and disparities, community partnership, and social justice, and how these can impact or address mental health, general health and wellbeing, and social/behavioral issues.
He has held leadership positions with the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) and the National Steering Committee for the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) Project.
He is also a member of the editorial boards for several psychology journals.
Since joining ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ in 2018, Dr. Chávez has been an integral part of the university community through his contributions to the Psychology Program, the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the College of Medicine.
He’s also involved in research and mentorship through programs such as the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), the Medical Careers Program, and the SOAR Program in the Urban Health Institute, the COSH Department of Health and Life Sciences, and other programs both at ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ and in the wider community.
